Thirty Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps volunteers gathered Saturday, October 21, to remove litter, plant native species, and monitor birds along the Onondaga Creekwalk in Syracuse.

October 2017 - Thirty Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps volunteers gathered Saturday, October 21, to remove litter, plant native species, and monitor birds along the Onondaga Creekwalk in Syracuse.

Plants such as wild bergamot, purple coneflower and false sunflower will beautify areas along the Creekwalk when in bloom.

Approximately 600 pollinator-friendly plants were added near Onondaga Creek. The plants will support bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators, which are important to plant reproduction.

Members of the Binghamton University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national coeducational service organization, observe birds in nearby trees.

Fifteen bird species were identified during the event, including Fish Crow, Field Sparrow and White-throated Sparrow.
